I posted this over at the BB, but thought I'd post here too, with
maybe a couple more comments.

The CMT awards - I finally got to see this (actually a couple of times
now, since they've been re-running it). A few thoughts:

I liked the awards show, it was okay. It had a kind of raucous, party,
down-home atmosphere. Funny that on the CMT boards, some of the fans
were complaining about Gretchen Wilson's 'image' and thinking that the
latest crop of glossy girl singers was 'real country'. They should do
their homework. Country has always been the music of the people.
Besides, Gretchen Wilson got a ringing endorsement from the current
matriarch of country music, Loretta Lynn, so enough said there.

Now, as to Gretchen Wilson - I think she's got a great voice, and I
like her whole redneck woman thing. Bear in mind I am not at all a
country person - I was raised in a very big city. I think she
definitely held her own singing Crazy On You with A&N, and I think it
was also very brave to have them on and do the song, because she also
caught a lot of flack for that as well from the fans over at the CMT
boards. It was a very good performance.

And very cool of Nancy to hand her the guitar on stage - it was plain
from the changing expressions on Gretchen's face (the confusion, then
the amazement) that A&N pulled a good one! :)

Loretta Lynn - how great was that whole tribute to her, huh? She's
quite the living legend. *grin* I loved when she told Gretchen she was
supposed to sing her Redneck Woman song 'before we all leave' (in
Loretta's words). Oh, and she does have some FINE taste for picking
escorts (Keith Urban).

I didn't care for Big and Rich, but that's just a personal preference.

Trisha Yearwood gave a fine performance with Georgia Rain.
I also really enjoyed Jeff Foxworthy's take on 'you might be a redneck
woman......" etc.

I didn't see the point of having some of the actors come on and give
awards, but I guess they were going for a more crossover appeal, or
something.
