What a WEEKEND!
Once again, I feel so lucky to be living in Southern California. Ann & Nancy are so good to us here! I'm going to type some comments from all 3 shows and hope to hear other reports from folks out there in DBA land. Man, was it ever smart to take today off from work! (slept until noon... wow). Anyway, here is part one.
After struggling to get out the door on Friday I managed to fight the dreaded I-15 traffic and arrive in Pala with enough time to meet my favorite Palm Springs ladies and toast over a few shots of Patron. And, at the very last minute, found someone to purchase my extra ticket. (thanks K!) Our seats were 3rd row, stage right between AFW and Mr. Bartok. The sound was a bit muddled up front but the energy was so high, it didn't matter all that much. At some point I drifted over to stage left and all I could hear then was the sound coming out of NFW's Orange amps. Nice! Being there, under the sky and that funky orange glowing moon listening to my favorite band was just fantastic. There were some rough spots, and that's to be expected a first, yet over the next few nights, things really jelled for the band. It was very obvious though, everyone was having a fun time!
The song selection was very similar to last year yet invoked some of their past solo acoustic elements, the hard rocking tours of the past and leaving with a page torn from the Lovemongers era. Can't remember all of the middle set but they began with "Battle of Evermore," transitioned to "Love Alive" and then proceeded to rock, totally, playing all the greatest hits ("These Dreams," "Alone," "Dog & Butterfly," "Kick It Out," "bebe le Strange") and cuts from Jupiter's Darling including "Things," "Enough," "Fallen Ones," "Perfect Goodbye" and the phenominal epic, "Lost Angel." Wrapping up with a powerhouse triple shot of "Magic Man," "Barracuda" and "Crazy on You," they left briefly returning with an encore of, yep, you guessed it Zeppelin! "Black Dog" then "Misty Mountain Hop" rocked the place into a frenzy leaving us screaming for even more. A&N did not disappoint. They came back, just as they started, with the two of them on acoustics to play the exquisite Lovemo!
