Well, Heart will be taping a show called Decades Live for VH1 Classic. They
will be doing a whole concert along with Alice In Chains. (I'm wondering
who's gonna sing AIC songs since Layne Stainly is dead.) It's February
17th, 2006 - a Friday night at the Trump Taj Mahal's Mark Ettes Arena. The
Arena is a Boxing Arena - a big square room which holds about 5000 to 6000
for a concert. I saw Melissa Etheridge there about 11 years ago and I saw
Sheryl Crow there in 2003. It's not my favorite AC venue, but it seems the
Donald has this deal with VH1 Classic.
If you are a member of the Heart Fan Club - www.heart-music.com - a ticket
pre-sale will be held TBA. It was suppose to be today (Monday) but it was
cancelled because of changes with the public sale date by Ticketmaster. The
tickets are $85 and there's a limit of 2 per fan club member.
You can also by tickets from Ticketmaster. Check www.ticketmaster.com for
the sale date.
If you're thinking of going to Atlantic City, remember - it's a holiday
weekend. That Monday is President's Day and the casino hotel rooms will be
at their top prices. There are numberous non-casino hotels on the island so
you might want to check out Super-8, Fairfield Inn, Holiday Inn, Days Inn
and some other chain hotels. These will be a bit cheaper but still up there
since it is a holiday weekend. You might want to check the mainland too.
There are hotels in West Atlantic City, Absecon, Egg Harbor City,
Northfield, Pleasentville, Somers Point and Linwood. You also might want to
check out the cities of Ventnor and Margate (on the same island as AC) plus
the two island on either side of AC - Ocean City and Brigintine. You have
to rent a car and drive from the mainland and other island to AC. It's no
more than a 15 minute ride.
You can fly into the Atlantic City International Airport or Philadelphia
International Airport.
- The upside flying into Atlantic Airport is that the city is 9 miles away.
You could catch a shuttle or a taxi to your hotel. The downside is that
it's more expensive to fly into AC and it's not service by alot of airlines.
-Philly International (PHL) is serviced by many airlines such as Southwest,
American, Delta, US Airways, United, Air Tran and many others. It's only a
55 minute ride from PHL to AC and better than 3/4 of the ride is on the
Atlantic City Expressway, which leaves you right in the heart of AC. You
might get a better deal flying into Philly and renting a car to AC. Also,
you can take public transportation from PHL to Center City Philly and catch
the New Jersey Transit train right to AC. The AC train station is right
next to the AC Expressway and you can take a Jittny or a taxi to your hotel.
**These are the closest airports to Atlantic City. Newark is a good 2 1/2
hour drive away from AC.
As for weather in the middle of February....we've had 2 feet of snow on the
ground and balmy tempertures near 60 degrees! It all depends on the winter.
Usually, we're anywhere between 30 and 50 degrees. Bring a winter coat
for sure and check the weather the week before you come east. And please
don't wish for snow!!! The Jersey shore area where AC is located is very
poor at snow removal. They usually don't get much of the white stuff but
sometimes AC does get a good amount of snow with a Nor'Easter.
I hope this information is helpful to mongers. I hope to see you all there!
Francie
