Ok, this may not be real popular with everyone, but I have to say something
about this. I got the Clever Bastards CD, The Great Unconformity, a day or two
ago. I've listened to it twice and I gotta say... this is a highly
listenable, enjoyablel and important artistic work they've done. This is one of the
most unique modern rock albums I've heard in awhile. It's refreshing. It has
all the great musical elements...melody, harmony, folkiness, in-yer-face
rockingness (I could've sworn I heard a bit of AC/DC on one track) and even a
tidbit of funkiness... This album is elegant and edgy at the same time. One thing
it's not is boring. Here's the fun part, ...it wouldn't surprise me if this
album did something. A seattle radio station has already played some of the
songs during an interview with them recently. (That's always kewl).
As for guitar? Roger is playing in a way that I find to be a true compliment
to this band's sound. Focused and inventive. Tho, it is signature to be
sure. There are alot of acoustic sounds, or electric with an acoustic pickup.
Really neat stuff!
Drums? Mike is an awesome drummer. I'm hearing nuances in his playing that
I almost forgot about.. It's great to hear him pound the skins again.
I always find the real test is .. how does it sound in the car? lol.. I will
find out when I go to work this evening.
The second test is....I want a Clever Bastards T shirt.....right now. hehe
If anyone has already heard this album, I'd be interested to hear other
people's comments on this music.
The Clever Bastards are:
Mike Curley (vocals, guitar)
Mike DeRosier (drums, percussion)
Roger Fisher (vocals, guitar, mandolin)
Rick Knotts (vocals, guitar, baritone guitar)
Lynn Sorensen (vocals, bass guitar)
Peace...
