Never been to to the Garden State...and recently I've had no wish to.
To
much Sopranos maybe? But after reading that, I think I've missed an
education! :)
There was a little chatter about an adhoc get together in Seattle
awhile
ago. Anyone going to be there around Labour Day of this year? I
think I'm
feeling more than a little nostalgic - damn you Vikki! Your penance is
to
play 'Classical Gas' the next time we meet! (I'm not certain I'm
willing to
wait another 10 years!) Okay, so I don't have a choice as I don't get
to
Virginia much.
Lor
I think I'll have more scotch - memories are so bittersweet!

Lor - Vik is talking about the convention in New Jersey, I believe.
You are talking about the mongermeet that Jack and Scott put on in
'97...yes, it was Auburn that we had the jam, and Alki Beach - getting
busted for the blaster, and Jolanda and her family, and the rest of
it.
sigh, indeed.

Lorilie,
lol... Yes, Mother Superior, I'll play it for ya. hehe..
It has been a long time since we've had any real monger meet. I
would
love a chance to get together with everyone again. Hmm.. shall we
brainstorm?

Ok, this is very off topic, but since there hasn't been a great deal of
'on
topic' discussion as of late, I thought I'd interject a different sorta
musical
thread. I invite everyone to share in this.
In the name of broadening our musical horizons, I would like everyone
to
discuss some new music that you all have discovered recently. Also,
how you
found
out about it and why you like it. Doesn't matter what it is, how old
or new,
genre... I don't care. Let's just yak about great music for a bit.
Want
to? :)
I will start off by telling you about a new group I discovered while
surfing
on CDBaby. It's amazing how much kewl independent music there is. I
had no
idea. There's this little modern psychadelic band out of Oklahoma
called
Ghost Of Monks Hood. I get the feeling they are very indiginous to the
city
they
live in. They recorded their 4th album entitled, "Spider Through The
Fog"
...in some guy's bedroom. They recorded it themselves. Very much
underground.
But, that's what's so kewl about it. Artistically, I give it much
merit.
Musically, they are on their way to developing a very kewl sound. It's
hard for
me to describe their music. It ranges from folk, a bit 'Dead-ish' at
times,
some Floyd influences, some jazz elements, interesting keyboard
'sounds'.
Unusually harmonies (with distortion at times). There's a bit of prog,
as well.
Uhh.. You just have to give it a listen for yourself, I think. If
you're at
all curious.. Go To CDBaby.com and do a search for the band name, or
Email
me privately and I'll be happy to give you a direct link. You can
listen to a
good bit a several songs from this album.. Seriously, I consider
these guys
my new little 'pet band' that I love to champion for their sheer
audacity to
record this kind of music and do it rather well. It's fun. It's
renaissance,
it's real and it's underground. And I really love it. So, turn up a
stone, my
friends.

Ha! I've been working with them for ten years. Finally - the world is
getting to know that this is one of the last "real" rock bands in the
world.
They
are absolutely satisfying and amazing...
