Hi!
This would be my first post to the list and it may
spark a little bit of debate.
The Niagara Falls Set:
Rock and Roll
Love Alive
Kick It Out
Straight On
Bebe Le Strange
These Dreams
Alone
Lost Angel
Even It Up
Magic Man
Barracuda
Crazy On You
Black Dog
Misty Mountain Hop
The Battle Of Evermore
Overall the band played and sounded very well and it
was the fist time I saw them since 1993.
I kind of have some mixed feelings on the set list.
First of all the eleven Heart songs that were played
we almost like a greatest hits album and that's fair
since these songs are pretty much favorites and when
you chosse to do a show in a casino enviornment, many
of the people attending the show are not long term
fans as there are a lot of people getting tickets
through casino packages.
I would question whether or not it was a good idea to
play four Led zeppelin songs or more direct one-half
of Led zeppelin's fourth album. I am also coming from
a pro-Led Zeppelin bias as I have organized serveral
Led Zeppelin conventions in Canada and USA, and in the
past published a Led Zeppelin fanzine as well.
Here's my reason of questioning this: The show was 60
minutes in length with a 20 minute encore. The Led
Zeppelin material was the encore and the first song of
the official set. Heart only played 55 minutes of
their material. On the Alive in Seattle DVD they did 2
or 3 Led Zeppelin songs in a 2 hour show and that's
fine.. I just felt that if you are doing a short set
under 90 minutes, devoting 30 percent of the show to
Led Zeppelin might dissapoint some of the long term
fans such as people who would joing a mailing list
like this.
Just for a little bit of fun, I spoke with the lady
who did the merchandising work for the band and I told
her I had organized Led Zeppelin shows. I jokingly
said to her that if the learned a few more Led
zeppelin numbers, maybe the could play my next Led
Zeppelin convention.
I've heard they may come to Canada to play Casino Rama
in August from a couple of sources and I will try to
go to that show as well. I had no criticisms on their
ability to perform.
By the way the shows I've seen Heart play or Toronto
1980 opening for the Who, Toronto 87, Hamilton 88,
Toronto and Hamilton 1990, Toronto and Detroit 1993.
Take care
Grant
